ICE ON THE SHORE AFFECTS FLOODING AND EROSION Stable shore-fast ice limits or wholly prevents waves from eroding the coast. Ice cover reaches its maximum extent in late February. There is minimal ice cover this winter. Open water allows more evaporation, which contributes to lowering the Bay.
