Hypothermic in August in under an hour? YES! One August, MSU Extension staff rescued people in Lake Erie near Detroit River. One victim was hypothermic after 45 minutes in 71F. water, losing body heat 25 times faster than air. Unconscious in 30 minutes; or dead in an hour. Extend survival time wearing a PFD- keep head and neck out of the water.  Continue reading →
