DISAPPEARING BEACHES - Chicago Tribune: Beach erosion has long worried L. Michigan's coastal residents. But the thinning veneer of sand on the lake floor may be more troublesome. The amount of sand drifting south from Wisconsin, protecting shorelines from pounding waves, has dropped 83% since the early 1800s. The coast is at risk for more and more erosion.
